Happy Talk Isn’t Just A Song In South Pacific Anymore

Keep talking, wingnuts; you're our best argument!--SS

Happy Talk Isn’t Just A Song In South Pacific Anymore:

The Way Forward

  • The lesson of the election is not that the GOP should moderate its positions to attract new voters; instead the lesson is that it should talk pretty. For example, to attract Hispanic voters, we should say we are in favor of “amnesty” when all borders are finally closed my disability is miraculously cured.* To attract women voters, don’t call it a “mandatory transvaginal ultrasound;” rather, call it a “free pony ride.”
*This is a reference to Charles’s sadly disfigured face and not anything else.

Warmer still: Extreme climate predictions appear most accurate, report says - The Washington Post

I've taken my election winnings, and gone long on the high numbers in Intrade's climate markets. Tell your fake climate skeptic friends they can go bet on it!--SS

Warmer still: Extreme climate predictions appear most accurate, report says - The Washington Post:

"Climate scientists agree the Earth will be hotter by the end of the century, but their simulations don’t agree on how much. Now a study suggests the gloomier predictions may be closer to the mark.

“Warming is likely to be on the high side of the projections,” said John Fasullo of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., a co-author of the report, which was based on satellite measurements of the atmosphere."

Twitter Racists React to 'That Nigger' Getting Reelected

The south shall rise again!--SS

Twitter Racists React to 'That Nigger' Getting Reelected:

In case you were hopeful that Obama winning a second term was some kind of indication that racism doesn't really exist anymore, check out Twitter. The amount of hate speech, referring to the president as a "nigger," a "monkey," calling for violence and for the south to "rise again" was depressing—and eye-opening.

Wisconsin's Ron Johnson laments ignorance

Ron Johnson is a condescending asshole. Still.--SS

Wisconsin's Ron Johnson laments ignorance:

Among Republicans, there are competing explanations for what went wrong in the 2012 elections, but Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has reached his own conclusion: Americans just aren't sharp enough to appreciate the far-right message.
Johnson attributed Obama's win on the heels of those Republican gains in Wisconsin to an uninformed electorate who voted in this election but not in the [Scott] Walker recall.
"If you aren't properly informed, if you don't understand the problems facing this nation, you are that much more prone to falling prey to demagoguing solutions. And the problem with demagoguing solutions is they don't work," Johnson said.
For the record, Ron Johnson believes affordable contraception is easily distributed over the Internet, thinks "sunspot activity" is responsible for global warming, believes the Great Recession ended before President Obama took office; and sees public investment in alternative energy as roughly the same thing as "the Soviet Union."

He may be the wrong guy to give lectures on being "properly informed."

Also yesterday, Johnson felt comfortable taking a rather condescending attitude towards his new home-state colleague, Sen.-elect Tammy Baldwin. The far-right senator said, "Hopefully I can sit down and lay out for her my best understanding of the federal budget because they're simply the facts."

It's worth noting that Baldwn, who has a degree in mathematics, has been in public office for two decades, including having been in Congress since 1999. If anything, Johnson would probably benefit if she sat down with him and laid out her best understanding of the federal budget.

As Nation and Parties Change, Republicans Are at an Electoral College Disadvantage - NYTimes.com

Western Strategy Math: CO + NV + NM = Obama wins without OH, FL, VA.--SS

As Nation and Parties Change, Republicans Are at an Electoral College Disadvantage - NYTimes.com:
But Mr. Obama did not need Ohio to carry the Electoral College, it turned out. Instead, states where there have been demographic shifts, like Colorado, gave him enough of a cushion.

Evolution is a thing

Facts as poetry.--SS

Evolution is a thing:
Ohio really did go to the president last night.
And he really did win.
And he really was born in Hawaii.
And he really is -legitimately- President of the United States.
Again.
And the Bureau of Labor Statistics did not make-up a fake unemployment rate last month.
And the Congressional Research Service really can find no evidence
That cutting taxes on rich people grows the economy.
And the polls were not skewed to over-sample Democrats.
And Nate Silver was not making up fake projections about the election
To make conservatives feel bad.
He was doing math.
And climate change is real.
And rape really does cause pregnancy sometimes.
And evolution is a thing.
And Benghazi was an attack on us.
It was not a scandal by us.
And no one is taking away anyone's guns.
And taxes haven't gone up.
And the deficit is dropping, actually.
And Saddam Hussein didn't have weapons of mass destruction.
And the moon landing was real.
And FEMA isn't building concentration camps.
And UN election observers aren't taking over Texas.
And moderate reforms of the regulations on the insurance industry
And the financial services industry
Are not the same thing as communism.
Listen.
